Crunches vs. sit ups

Performing sit ups helps you to strengthen your hip muscles as well as the abdomen. Also, it works upon your chest, neck, lower back and lower leg muscles. On the other hand, a crunch is a half sit up that only facilitates abdominal muscles.

How to do a proper crunch?

· Lie down on the floor with your back straight. Bend your legs at the knees. The feet should be shoulder apart and placed flat on the floor. Keep your arms at the sides. The arms should touch the floor. You can also cross your arms at the chest or hold them lightly at the back of the ears.

· Raise your head from the floor in a distance so that you feel the muscle pull at the abdomen. Avoid pulling your head too much and keep your eyes fixed toward the ceiling.

· Now get back to your initial position. While you rise up exhale and inhale when you go down. A minimum of 5 sets are a must.

How to do a sit up?

Similar to a crunch, in case of a sit up, hook your feet to some hard immovable object. Rise up your upper body to a semi-seated position. The breathing process is same as that of the crunches.
